Arranges meetings and responsible for overseeing SDNZ activities.

I am the Diving Safety Officer at Victoria University of Wellington and have been in this role for the last 10 years. We have approx. 20 active scientific divers in our program with a mix of academic, professional staff and students conducting around 1000 dives per year. I hold instructor ratings with SDI, TDI, PADI, DAN and the AAUS as a scientific diving instructor. I also represent the science diving community on the WorkSafe NZ Diving Industry Advisory Group.

I am the National Diving Safety Officer at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA). I have been the Diving Safety Officer at NIWA for about 15 years and have been involved in scientific diving deployments for over 20. I manage around 40 divers who conduct about 3000 scientific divers a year.

 

I am a SDI, TDI, PADI, DAN and American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) instructor and have been actively training scientific divers for over 18 years. I am a Part 1 Construction Diver and a Part 1 Supervisor. I represent scientific diving at the WorkSafe NZ Diving Industry Advisory Group, am the organisational representative for NIWA at the AAUS and have been involved in the development of standards through Standards NZ and Australia.

I am the Dive Safety Officer for the Cawthron Institute, in Nelson, and I’ve been in this role for the last 4 years. We have 16 active scientific divers and 4 more in training, carrying out 400 – 500 scientific dives a year, at locations all around New Zealand.

I am an Instructor with SDI, TDI, FRTI, and PADI, as well as holding qualifications in onshore construction diving as a diver and supervisor. I have been working as a diver in various sectors since 2001, including as a member of the instructional team with NIWA, teaching on the NIWA Scientific Diver course, between 2007 and 2017.

I am the Diving Safety Officer at the Department of Conservation and have been in this role for the last 7 years. We have approximately 20 active Departmental scientific divers and 15 contracted scientific divers in our program, conducting around 1000 dives per year. I hold a PADI dive master rating and have dived extensively around New Zealand and internationally.

Review and revise SDNZ Manual as required

My current role is the  Academic Leader for the Animal Care, Marine and Environmental Management Group at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in Tauranga with about 23 staff.  Within my department we have four dive instructors, one course director and two Divemasters, six of these are active scientific divers who conduct scientific diving around New Zealand and overseas. 

Additionally we teach approximately 90 students over two years of a Level 5 and 6 diploma.  This includes courses such as PADI Instructor, Diving for Scientific Purposes and sub-tidal surveying around a number of New Zealand’s offshore islands as well as overseas in places such as Papua New Guinea.

I’m a member of our Internal Diving Control Board as well as an active  PADI MSDT Instructor and an authorised and current Scientific Diver.
